Selection of industrial lubricants goes beyond choosing them for the lubrication function. If the industrial lubricants are on a line with coolants, the selection process must include the ability of the fluid to stay as an oil and not emulsify into the waterbase fluid. Many times the oil supplier feels that it is an advantage to have the lube oil which is washed into the coolant emulsify so it does not contribute to the free tramp oil problem. Although that is good for the oil supplier it is not good for the coolant. Dissolved oils will eventually replace the good neat oil in the coolant and problems with performance start to appear. Once it is emulsified it is difficult to remove. It is better to allow the oils to stay as free oils so they can be removed with conventional oil/water separators.
Harrigan Solutions has the team and know-how to assist in the industrial lubricants selection process and help with oil/water separators. For more information call Bill Harrigan at
