Technical Principles and Structural Features of Decanter Centrifuges
A decanter centrifuge, also known as a spiral discharge sedimentation centrifuge, is a continuously operating device that utilizes centrifugal force to accelerate solid-liquid separation. It primarily consists of a bowl, screw conveyor, differential, motor, and frame.
Working Principle
The core of a decanter centrifuge is a high-speed rotating bowl with a screw conveyor mounted within it. The two are coaxial but rotate at slightly different speeds. Material enters the rotating bowl from the feed inlet and is subjected to centrifugal forces thousands of times greater than gravity. Heavier solid particles quickly settle to the inner wall of the bowl. The screw conveyor, rotating at a speed slightly slower than the bowl, pushes the settled solids toward the conical end for continuous discharge through the discharge port. The liquid phase is discharged through the overflow port at the other end, achieving continuous solid-liquid separation.
Main Structural Features
The bowl: The primary component that withstands the high-speed centrifugal force and is typically made of high-strength alloy steel or stainless steel.
The screw conveyor: Continuously pushes settled solids out of the bowl, achieving continuous discharge.
Differential: Adjusts the speed difference between the bowl and the screw conveyor, controlling the residence time of solids in the bowl and influencing the dewatering effect.
Frame and drive system: Ensures stable operation and power transmission.
Automatic control system: Modern decanter centrifuges are equipped with a PLC system, which supports automated control and fault diagnosis.

Core Advantages of Decanter Centrifuges
Efficient and Continuous Separation
Compared to traditional intermittent filtration and sedimentation equipment, decanter centrifuges enable continuous material feeding, separation, and discharge, significantly improving processing efficiency and meeting the needs of large-scale industrial production.
Wide Range of Material Compatibility
Whether it’s ore slurry, sewage sludge, high-viscosity slurries, or corrosive chemical slurries, decanter centrifuges can handle them stably and efficiently through material selection and process parameter adjustment.
Energy Saving and Environmental Protection
The centrifugal separation process boasts high mechanical energy utilization, and with a well-designed design, power consumption is lower than that of traditional separation equipment. Furthermore, the fully enclosed structure reduces the leakage of harmful gases and dust, meeting modern environmental standards.
Compact Structure and Small Footprint
The horizontal design and compact size facilitate integration into production lines, reducing factory space requirements.
Easy Maintenance
The rational structure of the equipment ensures a long lifespan of wearing parts and allows for quick replacement, reducing operating and maintenance costs.

Main Application Areas of Decanter Centrifuges
Mining and Metallurgy
Slurry dewatering and tailings treatment are typical applications for decanter centrifuges. The highly wear-resistant decanter centrifuge can handle high-solids and highly abrasive slurries for extended periods, helping companies achieve resource recovery and tailings reduction.
Environmental Wastewater Treatment
Municipal and industrial sludge dewatering is a key application in the environmental protection industry. Decanter centrifuges efficiently reduce sludge moisture content, reducing transportation and disposal costs, and improving the overall efficiency of wastewater treatment plants.
Food and Pharmaceutical Industries
Decanter centrifuges are used for plant extracts, juice clarification, yeast recovery, and other applications, ensuring product quality and purity while meeting hygiene and safety standards.
Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industries
Decanter centrifuges process various chemical slurries and liquids, separating solid impurities and improving product purity and yield.
Oil and Gas Industries
Oil sludge dewatering and drilling fluid treatment reduce waste emissions and alleviate environmental pressures.
