Working Principle
The decanter centrifuge uses high-speed rotation to generate powerful centrifugal forces, causing solid particles in the suspension to rapidly settle at thousands of times the acceleration of gravity. The solids are then continuously discharged via a built-in screw conveyor, achieving uninterrupted solid-liquid separation.
The decanter centrifuge’s core components include the bowl, screw, differential system, and drive system:
The bowl rotates at high speed to create a centrifugal field, flinging denser solids toward the drum wall, forming a sediment layer.
The screw conveyor rotates slowly at a slight differential speed, pushing the sediment toward the discharge port for continuous discharge.
Differential speed control: A frequency converter or hydraulic differential adjusts the relative speeds of the screw and bowl to ensure optimal dryness and moisture content.
This closed-loop “continuous feed-separation-discharge” operation enables the decanter centrifuge to operate stably for extended periods, eliminating the need for frequent downtime for cleaning and significantly improving production efficiency.

Significant Advantages
Compared to traditional plate and frame filter presses and belt filter presses, decanter centrifuges offer significant advantages in several areas:
High Degree of Automation: Feeding, separation, and slag discharge are fully automated, reducing manual intervention and labor intensity.
Wide Application: Suitable for processing suspensions with solids contents ranging from 0.5% to 40%, it is suitable for applications in the chemical, environmental, food, pharmaceutical, and mining industries.
Energy-Saving and High-Efficiency: The equipment operates in a closed-loop system, eliminating the need for filter cloth or paper, saving consumables and reducing maintenance costs.
Small Footprint: The compact structure allows for flexible placement in production workshops or sewage treatment plants, saving valuable plant space.
Excellent Environmental Performance: The fully enclosed operation prevents secondary pollution, and the low noise and vibration levels improve the working environment.

Typical Applications
1. Municipal Sludge Treatment
Municipal wastewater treatment plants require stable and continuous dewatering equipment. Decanter centrifuges can concentrate and dehydrate sludge with a moisture content of up to 99% to approximately 75%, significantly reducing subsequent transportation and disposal costs.
2. Chemical and Petrochemical Industries
Processes such as chemical wastewater treatment, catalyst recovery, and oil-water separation all rely on high-efficiency separation equipment. The use of corrosion-resistant and wear-resistant materials in decanter centrifuges enables long-term operation in harsh environments such as acid, alkali, and salt.
3. Food and Beverage
In juice clarification, plant protein extraction, and yeast recovery, decanter centrifuges ensure product purity while minimizing nutrient loss.
4. Biomedicine
Suitable for applications requiring high cleanliness, such as solid-liquid separation in fermentation broth and cell recovery, their enclosed design effectively prevents external contamination.

Selection and Purchasing Guide
Processing Capacity and Solids Content
Select the appropriate drum diameter-to-length ratio based on process requirements.
Material Selection
Stainless steel 304/316L, duplex stainless steel, titanium alloy, etc. should be selected based on the corrosiveness of the material.
Drive Type
Variable frequency drive allows for flexible speed adjustment, saving energy and adapting to varying operating conditions.
Differential System
Select a stable and reliable differential to ensure effective solid-liquid separation.

Faced with increasingly stringent environmental regulations and fierce market competition, choosing efficient, energy-saving, and reliable separation equipment is crucial for businesses to reduce costs and improve profitability. Decanter centrifuges, with their superior automation and stability, have become an ideal choice for a variety of industries, including municipal sludge, chemical wastewater, food processing, and biopharmaceuticals.
