Technical Principles of Disc Centrifuges
A disc centrifuge is a precision device that uses high-speed rotation to generate powerful centrifugal forces to achieve liquid-liquid or solid-liquid separation. Its unique disc pack structure is key to improving separation efficiency.
Workflow
Feeding and Pre-distribution
Material enters the bowl through the feed inlet, where a distributor evenly distributes the material between the disc pack.
Separation Process
The high-speed rotation of the bowl generates centrifugal forces up to several thousand times the acceleration of gravity, causing solids or high-density liquids to rapidly settle toward the outer diameter, while low-density liquids accumulate on the inner side. The tilted disc structure shortens the settling path, significantly improving separation efficiency.

Discharge Methods
Solid Discharge: Depending on the material characteristics, options include intermittent automatic discharge, fully automatic continuous discharge, or manual cleaning.
Liquid Discharge: Separated liquids of different densities are discharged through separate outlets, enabling separation of oil and water, whey from milk fat, and other methods.
Key Structural Components
Bowl: The core component that rotates at high speed, made of a material with high strength and corrosion resistance.
Disc Stack: Consists of multiple stainless steel discs, mounted at an angle to create a narrow settling space, significantly shortening the separation path.
Drive System: Typically uses a direct motor drive or belt drive, with soft start and vibration-proof features.
Automatic Control System: Modern disc centrifuges are commonly equipped with PLC control, enabling automated operation, fault diagnosis, and protection.

Core Advantages of Disc Centrifuges
High Separation Precision
The disc pack design significantly shortens the sedimentation path, resulting in separation precision far exceeding that of conventional decanter centrifuges. It can separate fine particles or droplets as small as 0.5 to 1 micron.
Large Processing Capacity
While maintaining high precision, disc centrifuges can handle large flow rates, making them suitable for continuous industrial production.
Flexible Applications
They can perform both solid-liquid and liquid-liquid separations, and are particularly suitable for oil-water-solid three-phase separation.
Hygienic and Safety Design
This equipment, widely used in the food, dairy, and biopharmaceutical industries, is constructed of food-grade stainless steel with a polished interior for easy CIP (Cleaning in Place) cleaning and sterilization.
Automation and Energy Saving
PLC control enables fully automated operation, reducing labor costs. High-speed and efficient separation reduces energy consumption and material loss.

Typical Applications
Food and Dairy Processing
Milk Clarification and Skimming: Removes impurities and milk fat to produce whole, low-fat, or skim milk.
Juice Clarification: Removes pomace and pectin to improve clarity and taste.
Biopharmaceuticals
Cell Separation: Extracts cells or intracellular material from fermentation broth.
Vaccine Purification: Isolates high-value biological products such as viral particles and proteins.
Chemicals and Energy
Lubricant Oil Purification: Removes impurities and water from oil, extending its service life.
Oil-Water Separation: Recovers oil and reduces emissions in industries such as petroleum, oil fields, and shipping.

Disc Centrifuge Selection Recommendations
Define the separation task
Determine whether it is solid-liquid separation, liquid-liquid separation, or three-phase separation, and clearly define the target separation accuracy.
Processing Capacity
Select the appropriate model and drum size based on the material flow rate and production cycle.
Material Characteristics
Consider factors such as material viscosity, solids content, and corrosiveness to select the appropriate material and slag discharge method.
Hygiene Level
For the food and pharmaceutical industries, compliance with GMP and food safety standards is essential, and the equipment must support CIP/SIP cleaning and disinfection.
Degree of Automation
Based on production management needs, select a highly automated model with automatic slag discharge and automated monitoring.

A disc centrifuge is not only a separation device, but also a core equipment that ensures product quality and production efficiency. As a Chinese disc centrifuge manufacturer, we will continue to be driven by technological innovation to provide high-quality, high-performance separation solutions to customers around the world, helping more companies achieve green production and sustainable development.
