Disc Centrifuge For High-Precision Liquid-Liquid Separation

  • by

Working Principle of a Disc Centrifuge

A disc centrifuge is a high-speed decanter centrifuge that utilizes densely packed discs within the bowl to significantly shorten the particle settling path, thereby significantly improving separation efficiency.

1. Working Process

Feed: The mixed liquid enters the center of the high-speed rotating bowl through a feed pipe.

Separation: Under the powerful centrifugal force, denser solids or liquids are thrown to the outer layers, while the less dense phases concentrate in the inner layers. The discs divide the fluid into multiple thin layers, shortening the settling distance and significantly increasing the separation speed.

Discharge: Solids are deposited on the inner wall of the bowl and discharged through an intermittent or continuous discharge system.

Liquid Discharge: The separated liquid is discharged through the liquid phase outlet, achieving clarification or liquid-liquid separation.

2. Core Technology Advantages

High Separation Precision: Capable of separating fine particles with a diameter of 0.5-1μm.

High-Speed Operation: The bowl speed can reach 7000-9500 rpm, with a separation factor exceeding 9000.

Short sedimentation path: The disc structure shortens the sedimentation distance to the millimeter level, and the efficiency is several times higher than that of the decanter centrifuge.

Structural Features and Innovative Design

1. Drum System

Made of high-strength stainless steel or duplex stainless steel, ensuring corrosion resistance and fatigue resistance.

Utilizing precision dynamic balancing technology, it operates smoothly with minimal vibration.

2. Disc Stack

Specially angled design improves fluid distribution, reduces turbulence, and enhances separation efficiency.

Surface polishing reduces material residue and facilitates cleaning.

3. Slag Discharge Methods

Full discharge: Suitable for materials with high solids content, with periodic slag discharge and high efficiency.

Partial discharge: Suitable for materials with medium to low solids content, minimizing liquid phase loss.

Continuous slag discharge: Suitable for production lines with high solids content where downtime is not an option.

4. Drive and Control System

Utilizes a variable frequency drive, supporting soft start and stepless speed adjustment.

PLC intelligent control enables automatic slag discharge, automatic cleaning (CIP), and fault alarms.
