Disc Centrifuges For Biodiesel Production

  • by

With the continuous growth of global energy demand and the increasing awareness of environmental protection, biodiesel, as a renewable and environmentally friendly energy source, is gradually attracting people’s attention. In the production process of biodiesel, disc centrifuge, as an efficient separation equipment, plays a vital role.

Disc centrifuge can efficiently separate grease from solid impurities, colloids and other substances through its unique separation principle. When the county suspension flows into the gap between the high-speed rotating discs through the center tube under the action of the dynamic pressure head, inertial centrifugal force is generated. Solid particles with higher density move to the lower surface of the upper disc under the action of centrifugal force, and then are used outward under the action of centrifugal force, sliding down along the lower surface of the disc to the periphery of the rotor. The liquid with lower density, driven by the subsequent liquid, flows along the gap of the disc to the center of the rotor, then rises along the central axis and is discharged from the casing, thereby achieving the purpose of separation.

In the production process of biodiesel, the application of disc centrifuge is mainly reflected in the following aspects:

Raw material pretreatment

The raw materials of biodiesel mainly include oil crops, wild oil plants, microalgae and other aquatic plant oils, as well as animal fats, kitchen waste oils and other renewable or pollutant materials. Before entering the reactor, these raw materials need to go through a series of pretreatments, including hydration, degumming, dehydration, degassing and other steps. Disc centrifuges play an important role in these steps, and can efficiently remove impurities such as phospholipids, colloids, and water in the raw materials, providing high-quality oil raw materials for subsequent reactions.

Separation after transesterification reaction

Transesterification reaction is one of the key steps in biodiesel production. In this process, pretreated oil and methanol react with a catalyst to produce fatty acid methyl esters (i.e. biodiesel) and glycerol. After the reaction is completed, biodiesel and glycerol need to be separated by a disc centrifuge. The efficient separation capacity of the disc centrifuge can ensure the purity of biodiesel while reducing the oil content in glycerol, which facilitates the subsequent refining of glycerol.

Product refining and purification

During the production process of biodiesel, the product needs to be refined and purified to remove impurities and unreacted raw materials. Disc centrifuges also play an important role in this step. Through the separation effect of disc centrifuges, solid particles, colloids and other impurities in biodiesel can be further removed to improve the quality and stability of the product.

The application of disc centrifuge in biodiesel production not only improves production efficiency and reduces production costs, but also makes large-scale production of biodiesel possible. At the same time, as a renewable and environmentally friendly energy source, biodiesel is of great significance in reducing emission pollution, saving resources, and protecting the environment. Therefore, the application of disc centrifuge in biodiesel production not only has economic value, but also has great social value.

With the continuous advancement of technology and the continuous support of policies, the biodiesel industry will usher in a broader development prospect. As an important equipment in the production of biodiesel, the disc centrifuge will also be continuously improved and perfected to provide more powerful support for the development of the biodiesel industry.
