The disc pack in the centrifuge plays a vital role in the working process, and its working principle mainly depends on the action of centrifugal force. 1. Basic structure and installation

 

Disc pack composition:

Installation method:

The disc pack is installed in the drum, and the drum is installed on the upper end of the vertical shaft, and is driven by the motor through the transmission device to rotate at high speed.

 

2. Working Principle

 

Suspension feeding:

Suspension (or emulsion) is fed into the drum through the feeding pipe located in the center of the drum. When the suspension flows through the gap between the discs, it is affected by centrifugal force. These liquids begin to flow under the action of centrifugal force.

Centrifugal separation:
  • When the suspension (or emulsion) flows through the gap between the discs, the solid particles (or droplets) quickly settle on the discs under the action of centrifugal force. In this process, the centrifugal force causes the solid particles or droplets to accelerate outward, thus separating from the liquid.
  • Solid particles with higher density move to the lower surface of the upper disc under the action of centrifugal force, and are thrown outward under the continuous action of centrifugal force, sliding down along the lower surface of the disc to the periphery of the rotor. These solid particles eventually accumulate in the part with the largest diameter in the drum.
  • On the contrary, the liquid with lower density flows along the gap of the disc to the center of the rotor under the push of the subsequent liquid, then rises along the central axis and is discharged from the sleeve.
Function of disc:

The main function of disc is to shorten the sedimentation distance of solid particles (or liquid droplets) and expand the sedimentation area of ​​the drum. This greatly improves the production capacity of the centrifuge and makes the separation process more efficient, thus significantly improving the separation efficiency and production capacity of the centrifuge.

Slag discharge and liquid discharge:
  • After the separator stops, the solids accumulated in the drum can be removed manually by disassembling the drum, or discharged from the drum without stopping the machine through the slag discharge mechanism.
  • The separated liquid is discharged from the liquid outlet of the drum, achieving the purpose of solid-liquid separation.

 

3. Operation Mode

 

Disc centrifuge can complete two main operation modes:

  • Liquid-solid separation (clarification operation): mainly used for separation of low-concentration suspensions, separating solid particles from liquids through centrifugal force.
  • Liquid-liquid separation (or liquid-liquid-solid separation, i.e. separation operation): used for separation of emulsions, effectively separating two immiscible liquids and the solid particles therein.
