Working Principle of a Decanter Centrifuge

A decanter centrifuge is a device that continuously separates solids and liquids using the principle of centrifugal sedimentation. Its core structure consists of a rotating drum, a screw conveyor, a differential, and a drive system.

Feed

The suspension to be separated is continuously fed into the drum through a feed pipe.

High-Speed Separation

The drum rotates at several thousand rpm, creating a powerful centrifugal force field that rapidly settles solid particles in the suspension to the inner wall of the drum, while the liquid phase forms an annular layer.

Screw Conveying

Coaxial, counter-rotating screw conveyors continuously push the deposited solids toward the discharge port, achieving continuous solid discharge.

Liquid Discharge

The clarified liquid is continuously discharged through a liquid overflow weir, achieving solid-liquid separation.

This continuous feeding, separation, and discharge mode enables the decanter centrifuge to achieve extremely high efficiency and stability when processing large flow rates, high solids content, and viscous materials.

Advantages of Decanter Centrifuges

1. High-Efficiency Separation

Compared to traditional methods like plate and frame filter pressing and vacuum filtration, decanter centrifuges can complete solid-liquid separation in seconds, offering high processing capacity and efficiency, making them particularly suitable for continuous production needs.

2. High Degree of Automation

The equipment automatically performs feeding, separation, and slag discharge, requiring no human intervention throughout the entire process, reducing labor costs and improving production safety.

3. High Adaptability

Whether it’s high-concentration sludge, oily wastewater, or high-viscosity, high-fiber materials, the decanter centrifuge maintains excellent separation results, truly achieving “one machine for multiple uses.”

4. Energy Saving and Environmental Protection

Utilizing a variable frequency drive and optimized design, the decanter centrifuge offers low energy consumption. It also enables resource utilization of wastewater and waste residue, helping companies comply with environmental protection regulations.

5. Stable Operation

The entire machine is constructed of wear- and corrosion-resistant materials, and the bearings and transmission system are optimized, ensuring long-term continuous operation and low maintenance costs.
