Working Principle of a Decanter Centrifuge
A decanter centrifuge is a continuously operating decanter centrifuge primarily used for solid-liquid separation of suspensions containing solid particles. Its core principle is to exploit the separation characteristics of materials of different densities under a centrifugal field.
Material Feed
The suspension to be processed enters the centrifuge’s bowl through a feed pipe.
High-Speed Separation
The bowl rotates at high speed, generating centrifugal forces thousands of times greater than the acceleration of gravity. Due to their high density, the solid particles in the suspension are thrown toward the inner wall of the bowl, forming a sediment layer, while the clarified liquid remains within the sediment layer.
Screw Conveyor
The screw conveyor has a certain speed difference with the bowl. Under the action of centrifugal force, the settled solids are continuously pushed to the discharge outlet for discharge, achieving automatic and continuous discharge.
Clarified Liquid Discharge
The clarified liquid is continuously discharged through the liquid phase outlet, achieving solid-liquid phase separation.
This continuous, efficient, and automated operating mode makes the decanter centrifuge particularly suitable for processing high solids content, large throughput, and long-term continuous operation.

Decanter Centrifuge Structure
A decanter centrifuge consists primarily of the following core components:
Drum: Carries and accelerates the material and is the core component of the centrifuge. It is typically made of wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant stainless steel or alloy steel.
Screw Conveyor: Continuously pushes solid sediment to the discharge port. Its material and coating determine the wear life of the equipment.
Differential: Ensures a reasonable speed difference between the screw and the drum, thereby ensuring stable solids conveying.
Drive System: Includes the main motor and auxiliary motor. Some models utilize variable frequency drive for energy savings and differential speed adjustment.
Frame and Casing: Support and protect the entire centrifuge, isolating vibration and noise to ensure stable operation.
Control System: Modern decanter centrifuges are equipped with a PLC automatic control system, which enables real-time monitoring and automatic adjustment of operating parameters, supporting remote control and intelligent management.
