Separation Principle
The primary purpose of the horizontal screw centrifuge is to effectively separate solids from liquids through a two-phase separation process. This is achieved through a complex interplay of centrifugal force, buoyancy, and flow resistance (as depicted in Figure 1), with the resulting clarification speed being a direct consequence of these forces working together.
Running process
A horizontal screw centrifuge is a machine with a rotating drum, supported on bearings at both ends and a feed pipe to transport materials. High-speed rotation and friction cause the material to form a cylindrical liquid ring, with the centrifugal force pushing the solid towards the inner wall of the drum. The liquid then flows out through the overflow port while a cone forms at the front end of the machine. The smaller diameter of the cone creates a slag discharge port, ensuring that the liquid is not released from this point.
The presence of a screw conveyor in the machine causes the clarified liquid to transition from an axial flow to a spiral flow, thereby removing the solids accumulated on the inner wall of the drum. This spiral flow also increases the liquid’s flow capacity and creates a stirring motion.
