Application of Centrifuge in Oil-Water Separation

Centrifugal oil water separators are efficient, budget-friendly, and reliable tools.
They utilize centrifugal force to effectively separate oil from water.

Water oil separation centrifuge

One specific industry that faces the challenge of producing high volumes of oily wastewater is the petrochemical industry. This is due to the significant amount of oil used in their processes. Separating oil and water is a complex task due to their similar densities and the occurrence of emulsion, which leads to prolonged separation times. Finding the right centrifuge is crucial as it needs to consider all these factors and be capable of continuously operating with a high capacity and fast separation speed.

What is an Oil Centrifuge?

The oil centrifuge is a mechanical device that harnesses centrifugal force to effectively remove impurities and contaminants from the oil. By utilizing the engine oil pressure to spin the centrifuge bowl at high speeds, the gravitational force effectively draws particles and contaminants outwards against the centrifuge bowl wall, allowing only purified oil to return to the oil tank. This process creates a compact sludge cake on the outside of the centrifuge bowl, which can then be easily removed to eliminate any impurities or contaminants.

The Vortex at Work in Centrifugal Oil Water Separator

A Hydrocyclone uses centrifugal forces to separate high-density water and solids from low-density oil and finer solids. The constant flow and spinning vortex in a cone-shaped separator cause the high-density liquid to move to the outside and the lower density fluid and sediment to sit on the inside. Clean water exits through an outlet at the bottom, while oil and sediment are collected and exit through an outlet at the top.

The use of centrifugal separation technology is beneficial in the treatment of industrial and environmental water, refining chemicals and petrochemicals, powering industries, and food and beverage production.

Extracting two immiscible liquids

The Allcentrifuges decanter centrifuge is a powerful tool for separating two non-miscible liquids with different densities. Its applications include purifying fuel oil, separating organic and inorganic products, and oil purification for contractors. With its high speed of 15,000 G min, the vertical decanting tubular bowl centrifuge effectively separates the heavy and light phases. By adjusting the feed rate, the residence time of the product inside the decanting rotor can be controlled.

The Allcentrifuges decanter centrifuge is designed for simple operation and low maintenance. Its full opening casing effectively reduces noise emissions, ensuring safe operation and easy front-side extraction in compliance with GMP guidelines. The casing also allows for precise temperature regulation of liquids by incorporating heating or cooling coils. These coils minimize heat transfer caused by the rotational mechanical heat of the rotor or warm up the product as needed. Additionally, the Allcentrifuges decanter centrifuge can be adapted for use in hazardous areas and can be equipped with CIP and SIP systems, as well as other auxiliary or complementary devices as required.

Working Principle of Oil Centrifuge

The oil is directed into the centrifuge through its inlet and is propelled by the centrifuge spindle. Afterwards, the oil enters the bottom of the centrifuge bowl through the distributor impeller, which rotates at a high speed, creating strong centrifugal forces. The centrifuge bowl disc then separates the heavier particles, pushing them towards the outer edge of the bowl where they are deposited on the bowl wall. The purified oil is then pushed upwards and ejected through four nozzles into the centrifuge body. Finally, the cleaned oil is allowed to drain back into the engine’s sump or tank due to gravity.

Bowl disc increase in the oil filtering separation efficiency!

The use of bowl discs in Allcentrifuges oil centrifuges significantly improves the separation of sediment and oil, resulting in increased speed and efficiency. This innovative feature sets them apart from other conventional oil centrifuge filters, greatly reducing the amount of time that contaminants such as soot, wear metals, engine sludge, foreign debris, and other abrasive contaminants can remain in the oil. No other manufacturer offers this unique feature in their centrifuges.
