Fresh natural latex contains approximately 27% to 41.3% (m/m) latex, 44% to 70% water, 0.2-4.5% protein, 2% to 5% natural resin, 0.36% to 4.2% saccharides, and 0.4% ash. In order to make transportation and processing easier, the latex is concentrated to a solid content of 60% using centrifugal or evaporation methods, and is then referred to as concentrated latex.

Main Structure

This high-speed rotating drum is powered by a thermal coupling, with a powerful motor providing the necessary energy. Through a feed pipe located in the center of the drum, liquid material is carried into the bottom of the drum. From there, it is led through a porthole below the disc and driven towards the drum wall. Thanks to centrifugal force, a thorough separation occurs between the solid and liquid substances. The solid particles, being heavier, sink to the inner wall of the drum and form sediment. Meanwhile, the lighter liquid is carried through a centripetal pump and discharged through a liquid outlet. As for the heavier liquid, it is directed towards the cone inside the disc and then flows upwards through a heavy liquid concentric pump to be discharged from an outlet.

How does Disc Separator work?

The vertical disc separator consists of a motor-driven vertical axis with an upper-mounted, high-speed rotating drum. The drum is filled with a stack of disc-shaped components, with small gaps in between. As the suspension or emulsion is pumped through the feeding tube in the center of the drum, it passes through the gaps in the discs, resulting in sediment or liquid being separated by centrifugal force. The sediment then slides along the disc’s surface and accumulates in the drum’s largest diameter.

The outlet is where the liquid is finally discharged. The disc is designed to decrease the settling distance of solid particles or droplets, expand the settling area of the drum, and enhance the separator’s production capacity. The solids collected in the drum are removed manually after the machine is stopped, or taken out without stopping in the case of a dregs machine.
