Introduction
Centrifugation is to use the powerful centrifugal force generated by the high-speed rotation of the centrifuge rotor to accelerate the sedimentation speed of particles in the liquid and separate the substances with different sedimentation coefficients and buoyancy densities in the sample. Therefore, a centrifuge is required to generate a strong centrifugal force to force these particles to overcome diffusion and cause sedimentation motion. A centrifuge has a cylinder called a bowl that rotates at high speed around its axis, and is usually driven by an electric motor. After the suspension (or emulsion) is added to the bowl, it is quickly driven to rotate at the same speed as the bowl, and the components are separated and discharged separately under the action of centrifugal force.
Working principle
The working principle of the centrifuge bowl is based on the action of centrifugal force. When the drum rotates at high speed, the mixture inside (such as suspension) is subjected to strong centrifugal force, so that the dense solid particles are pushed to the inner wall of the bowl to form a solid layer; The less dense liquid forms a liquid ring and flows along the axial direction of the bowl and is finally discharged through the blowdown pipe.
- Lower rotational speeds hold more liquid, but may affect the separation
- Higher rotational speeds are effective at separating fine solid particles, but may result in liquid loss.
- The liquid passes through the solid layer to form a liquid ring and flows axially along the bowl and is discharged through the sewage pipe.
- The density of solid particles is greater than that of liquids, and the solid particles are pushed against the inner wall of the bowl to form a solid layer under the action of centrifugal force.
- The mixture to be separated is forced to rotate to form a liquid ring and a solid layer.Centrifugal force is used to separate solid particles from liquids
Application
Centrifuge drums are widely used in many industries such as chemical, petroleum, food, pharmaceutical, mineral processing, coal, water treatment and shipbuilding, and are used to realize the separation of various suspensions and emulsions.
