Working Principle of a Disc Centrifuge
A disc centrifuge uses centrifugal force generated by high-speed rotation to rapidly separate solid particles and liquid of varying densities in a liquid mixture. Compared to traditional sedimentation equipment, its separation speed is dozens or even hundreds of times faster.
The disc stack is its core component:
The disc stack consists of multiple conical stainless steel discs, with a certain gap between each disc, forming a thin liquid film channel.
When the mixed liquid enters the high-speed rotating disc stack, centrifugal force pushes the high-density solid particles to the outer edges, where they settle, while the low-density liquid flows toward the center and is drawn out.
The disc structure significantly shortens the particle settling path, improving separation efficiency.
Disc centrifuges can be categorized as either intermittent or continuous discharge types.
Intermittent discharge types are suitable for clarification processes with low solids content, requiring scheduled shutdowns or periodic discharge via an automatic discharge device.
Continuous discharge types are suitable for high solids content conditions, offering continuous operation without frequent downtime and higher production efficiency.

Key Technical Advantages of Disc Centrifuges
High Separation Efficiency
Gravity acceleration can reach 6,000–10,000 G, significantly higher than the 2,000–3,500 G of a decanter centrifuge. It is particularly suitable for separating fine particles (1–5 μm) from liquids.
Large Capacity, Compact Size
A single centrifuge can process several or even tens of tons of material per hour, while occupying a relatively small footprint, making it ideal for space-constrained production workshops.
Liquid-solid, liquid-liquid, and liquid-liquid-solid multiphase separation capabilities
It can not only separate liquids and solids, but also separate oil and water from emulsions, making it suitable for industries such as dairy, edible oil, and pharmaceuticals.
High Degree of Automation
Utilizing a PLC control system, it automates feeding, separation, slag discharge, and cleaning, reducing manual intervention and improving production stability.
Safe Material Contact Parts
Commonly used are food-grade or corrosion-resistant stainless steels such as 316L, 2205, and 2507, meeting food and pharmaceutical production standards and resistant to acid, alkali, and salt spray corrosion.
Smooth Operation, Low Noise
Precise dynamic balancing ensures minimal vibration during operation, minimizing impact on plant structures and operators.

Key Considerations for Purchasing a Disc Centrifuge
Material Characteristics
Parameters such as particle size distribution, solids content, viscosity, temperature, and corrosiveness directly influence equipment selection.
Separation Objectives
Is clarification, concentration, dehydration, or emulsion separation required? Different models are suitable for different process requirements.
Capacity Requirements
Select a model whose processing capacity matches the production cycle to avoid overloading or prolonged low-load operation.
Automation and Cleaning Requirements
Is automatic slag discharge, CIP (Cleaning in Place) cleaning, or fully enclosed operation required?
Maintenance and After-Sales Service
Understand the equipment’s wear part replacement cycle, spare parts availability, and after-sales response time.
Power and Installation Requirements
Confirm the plant’s power supply specifications, installation space, foundation load-bearing capacity, and lifting conditions.
